Digital Download Guide

What is a digital download?

A digital download also know as a printable, is a file version of the design and not a physical product. It is usually a PDF, JPG or PNG file. Digital printables mean you can print out in the comfort of your own home, at your own convenience and as many times as you like.

This new way of creating artwork offers many advantages including affordability and accessibility. You can create interchangeable, stunning gallery walls without it costing the earth!

How do I receive my digital downloads?

After purchase, your files are instantly accessible at the checkout page. Just download, print and enjoy! You will also have a copy sent through to your email address where you can access at any time. As our artworks come in multiple sizes, you will receive a compressed zip file.

What is a zip file?

For those of you that are not familiar with a zip file, then let me break it down for you. A zip file is a common format that's used to compress one or more files together into a single location. This can reduce the file size upto 50% which makes it a lot easier to transport and store. ZIP files work in the same way as a standard folder on your computer.

How do I open a zip file?

Once you have downloaded the zip file, you will need to double click on the folder to open. Once opened, the files inside the folder will be displayed. Click on ‘extract all’ which is located above the files. A pop up will appear asking you where you would like to save your files. Choose a destination and then click ‘extract’. Your files will now be available to view on your computer.

What file sizes will I receive?

Our printables come in 4 file sizes (aspect ratio). These 4 file ratios, then allows you to print on multiple different sizes. Simply put, a file ratio describes the width of an image in relation to its height. Choosing the right aspect ratio not only avoids any distortion of an image when printing but also avoids the need to crop the print when framing.

Take a look at the table below for file size reference. The top row is the file size you will receive which allows you to print on any of the sizes in the column below it.

24x36" 18x24" 16x20" A1
2:3 Ratio 3:4 Ratio 4:5 Ratio A
20x30 15x20 8x10 A2
16x24 12x16 4x5 A3
12x18 9x12 A4
10x15 6x8 A5
8x12 A6
6x9 A7
4x6

All our printables have a 300dpi (dots per inch) for the highest quality images. The more dots, the better the quality.

We like to make the most of our artworks so if we feel that a design will fit better on a different print size, then this will be included instead. If this is the case, it will be stated in the product description so please read carefully.

What paper should I use to print my artwork?

The printable final quality will depend on the printers used and the paper/card stock you chose to use. We recommend using no less than 170/200gsm paper/ cardstock. Gsm stands for ‘grams per square metre’ and, the heavier the paper, the better the quality. We also recommend using a matte finish instead of a gloss finish. This can be more flattering for a print and reduces the risk of glare.

Please be aware that colours may differ slightly from what you see on screen, depending on what printing service is used.

Where should I print my artwork?

For a more professional look, you can choose to have your digital download printed at a local print shop. There are many print shop providers that can help you with this, and with a quick google search, I'm sure there will be plenty of options.

This is particularly useful if you wanted to print your artwork on a larger sized paper. You can also upload files to an online printing service and have them delivered straight to your door. Be sure to select the correct file size and high-quality paper if you choose to do this option.

We also offer a printed version of most of our digital downloads so be sure to check them out!
